The Cabot Trail

The Cabot Trail is a world famous Canadian coastal highway that offers 298km of iconic views that twist and turn around Cape Breton Island. We drove our 1978 Westfalia Camper Van and I must say, it was a challenging drive. A lot of steep grade hills and sharp turns that tired our old van. After hearing tales that the best views are on the West side of the coastal trail coupled with road construction on the East side, we ended up driving from Inverness to Igonish Beach and then turned around and camped inside Cape Breton Highlands National Park for the night. If you have the time and a reliable vehicle, I’d highly recommend completing the entire trail! And of course, stop in the little coastal towns for fresh seafood along the way and take as many pictures as you can at each vantage point – it’s breathtaking and worth remembering!

1. We camped inside Cape Breton Highlands National Park – since we didn’t pre-book our campsite, the grounds were full. We ended up in an overflow site area that ended up with amazing views!
