Tofino and Ucluelet Travel Tips

1. Wild Coast Trail – Ancient Cedars and Lighthouse Loop

The Wild Coast Trail follows the Pacific coastline along the shores of Ucluelet. It offers stunning views of rocking shores, crashing waves, lighthouses, wild life, and ancient cedars. The trails are fairly accessible and easy to hike and the perfect way to take in the wild beauty of Vancouver Island! You can view a map of the different trails here.

2. Surf Lessons

Did you know that you can surf in Canada? Tofino is Canada’s surf capital and your can hang ten all year round! And for those who are terrified of sharks ( “hi, it’s me”) no worries, because you will not find sharks in the waters of Tofino – phew! So pick a surf shop, book a lesson, and get out surfing some waves! We booked with Tofino Surf School and they were fantastic! We met at Cox Bay and had a 45 min water safety and surf technique lesson and then took to the shallows to catch our first small waves. We loved our experience so much that we rented surf boards the following day and went out to long beach to live out my “Blue Crush” dreams.

3. Explore the shops and Restaurants of Tofino and Ucluelet

We stayed in Ucluelet – hot tip, it can be much more affordable that Tofino, and it’s quieter – so our mornings consisted of morning coffee and pastries at the Foggy Bean or the Barkley Cafe (Formerly Zoes Bakery), drinks at Ucluelet Brewing Company, and dinner at our favourite restaurant of all time, Pluvio. If you only had time to try one spot for dinner, Pluvio wins every time! It’s small and quaint and reservations are required, so book early!

4. Beach Sunset

You haven’t seen a sunset, until you’ve experienced one in Tofino/Ucluelet. Every night we were lucky enough to witness clear skies and the most breathtaking array of pinks and purples I’ve ever seen. So grab a nightcap and make your way down to the closest beach and get ready to be ah-mazed!

Our AirBnB was only a 3 min walk from Little Beach, so that’s the view you see from our photos. Here
