Whistler To Do and See
Whistler, the most beautiful village amongst the Rockie Mountains. Spring, winter, summer, or fall, you’ll fall in love with Whistler during any season! I have yet to go during the Winter, but I can confirm that summer is magical. The wildflowers are in full bloom and the sun is shining. There’s endless beauty and activities to fill up your schedule. Here are a few of my must sees and dos!
1. Take the Whistler Blackcomb Gondola
This is one of our favourite experiences – we’ve done it twice! Although a bit pricey to ride the gondola, it’s worth it! Take the Gondola to the top of Whistler and explore the ice wall, Inukshuk, and Glacier. Then, take the Peak to Peak gondola to Blackcomb and go for a hike amongst the wildflowers. The views are breathtaking at every turn. They just kept getting better and better! After, you’ll take the chairlift back down to the base. On the way, you may even spot a black bear or two!
2. Walk or Bike the Valley Trail
The Valley Trail winds it was from Creekside to Whistler Village through forests, around lakes, and across rivers. Hitting the trail in the morning is the perfect way to welcome your day and get out into nature. We enjoyed grabbing a coffee and strolling around Alta Lake. You can watch sailers, paddle boarders, and kayakers stroke their way around the lake. If you bring your bathing suit, there are public docks where you can even take a quick dip! Remember, these lakes are glacier fed, so be prepared for a polar dip!
3. Explore the Village Shops and Restaurants
Whistler Village is full of cute shops, cafes, and restaurants. You can spend the afternoon walking through the village browsing souvenir shops and checking out the latest ski and bike gear. Or, just plant yourself on a patio and people watch. There’s an active hum of outdoor enthusiasts that radiates through the village that is quite contagious. It might even motivate you to try mountain biking or rock-climbing!
4. Take a day trip to Pemberton
I know, I know, you must be thinking, why would I leave Whistler and drive farther north? Well, hear me out. Pemberton is only 30 min away from Whistler and it is home to the most picturesque farm that has to be experienced. North Arm Farm is the hidden gem of Pemberton. You can browse the market for local fruits, veggies, preserves, and meat pies, or grab a bite to eat from their cafe. You can even walk the grounds and pick your own berries, meet farm animals, or just sit and take in the breathtaking views of Mt Currie.
5. Day trip to hike Joffre Lakes Provincial Park
Joffre Lakes is only an hour drive from Whistler, so it’s the perfect day trip to add to your bucket-list when you’re visiting Whistler. With exceptional vistas and clear blue glacier lakes, it’s one of my favourite hikes to date! It took 3 hours to hike moderately up to the middle lake and 45 minutes to get down. This was in July circa 2016. You can hike up to the upper lake and camp if you’ve made reservations, but a day hike to the middle lake was perfect for us, and the views were epic!
